Using a hot plate with magnetic stirrer

Was wondering if anyone uses a hotplate with stirrer. I just purchased a digital one. Was wondering what temperature is good to set it at and what should I set the rpms at? Also can I sterilize the grape seed oil on the hot plate instead of oven? Thanks.
