[h=1]Yes, concealed carriers have stopped mass shootings[/h]By BearingArms.com Staff / 18 September 2013 / 40 comments
For whatever bizarre reason, gun control proponents enjoy periodically trotting out the claim that concealed carriers have never stopped a mass shooting incident. The claim is of course a bald-faced lie, and the most recent proof of that being the Clackamas (OR) Mall shooting in December, where concealed carrier Nick Meli drew his weapon when he encountered the masked shooter.

Meli did not fire his .40 S&W Glock 22, even though he had the shooter?s head lined up in his sights as the shooter worked to clear his jammed weapon. Instead?and contrary to the of-stated hysteria of how gun-grabbers assert concealed carriers would act in such a situation?Meli decided not to immediately fire, fearing he might hit an innocent bystander. Instead, he moved to get into a better position.
It is believed that the mall shooter glanced up and saw Meli moving to cover as he brought his weapon back into action. Fearing that he was about to be taken, he instead chose to use his next bullet to commit suicide.
Meli?s actions are mentioned as one of nine potential mass shootings cut short by a concealed carrier in asurprisingly popular BuzzFeed post circulating today, which seems to have been culled from lists previously circulating around the Internet, some featuring as few as four incidents, some feature as many as 15.
Anti-gun Democrats of course, seek to dispute these successful stops by applying absurd qualifiers about who who really ?counts? as a concealed carrier, excluding of-duty cops and military veterans, or asserting that shootings were over because a shooter was taken down as he moved from one target to another. For the serially dishonest, it?s all about maintaining the narrative, no matter how devious they much be to maintain it.
In the end, we know the truth.
The majority of mass shootings end when the shooter is taken down by someone with a gun, or they see someone with a gun maneuvering on their position, and then commit suicide to avoid being taken alive.
It doesn?t matter to the prospective mass shooter if the good guy with a gun has a badge and arrives ten minutes late, or if he is a concealed carrier who happens to be on-scene before he can empty the first magazine at innocent victims, just that a good guy has a gun, and that his uncontested rampage is over.
Good guys with weapons are the only thing that stops bad guys with weapons.
That dynamic will never change.

[h=1]Store owner without bullets drives off pants-dropping armed robbers[/h]By BearingArms.com Staff / 10 September 2013 / 15 comments
If you?re dumb enough to attack a man armed with an assault rifle when all you have is an empty handgun, you can count yourself lucky that the thug can?t shoot worth a darn:
The owner of Kennedy Jewelers on East Main Street testified Tuesday that after he spotted a 6?6″ masked man armed with an assault rifle in his store he loaded his pistol and took on the robber and his accomplice.
Shane Kennedy said he first aimed at the pair with his revolver and pulled the trigger, but found the gun was empty. He said he ducked behind his office door, loaded the weapon, then, ?I came out firing.?
The pair fled the store after the Aug. 6 holdup without getting any loot. They were soon apprehended.
Making this story more absurd is that the accomplice to this botched robbery could keep his pants on, and his blue underwear, caught on the store?s video camera, becomes evidence that could put him away for decades.
Take it away, General:

[h=1]Wilmington carjackers foiled by citizen with a gun[/h]By BearingArms.com Staff / 9 September 2013 / 26 comments
A pair of attempted carjackers in Wilmington got more than they bargained for when their intended victim gave them an eyeful of muzzle:
Two would-be robbers did not get away with much after attempting to rob a person at a stoplight in Wilmington Thursday morning.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded to Third and Wooster Streets just after midnight for a reported armed robbery.
Police said the victim was stopped a few blocks up at 13th and Wooster Streets, smoking a cigarette with his arm out the window when someone grabbed his arm.
The victim told police when he looked over he saw someone pointing a gun at him and yelled, ?Give me your truck!?
Police said the would-be robbers ran away when the victim pulled out his own gun and pointed it at the suspect.
Most defensive gun uses end without a shot being fired. Like we saw with the convenience store clerk last week, merely the presence of a competently-handled firearm sends the bad guys running.

[h=1]Deputy with beanbag rounds > meth-head Muslim swordsman[/h]By BearingArms.com Staff / 3 September 2013 / 83 comments
A San Bernadino County sheriff?s deputy exhibited considerable restraint when he chose to use bean-bag rounds instead of lethal force to bring down a drug-addled man who charged him with a sword:
A sword-wielding 33-year-old Rancho Cucamonga man charged deputies while hollering ?Allah Akbar,? sheriff?s officials say, until the deputies halted him with a blast from a bean bag shotgun.
Montasir Ishag was arrested at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, along the 9400 block of Glenaire Court and booked for investigation of attempted murder of a police officer, jail records show. His bail is $1 million.
Deputies were summoned to the house at 1:26 p.m. by a caller who said his son was under the influence of meth and was having a bi-polar episode, sheriff?s officials said in a written statement.
The caller also said his son had a sword in his bedroom and feared for his safety.
When deputies entered the front door, Ishag charged the deputies with a sword, while yelling ?Allah Akbar,? according to the statement. Deputies used a less than lethal shotgun.
I?d correct the journalist to note that there is no such thing as a ?less than lethal shotgun.? The firearm used was a standard 12-gauge shotgun using one of a variety of less-lethal rounds. ?Less-lethal? rounds can still kill at short range such as inside a residential home. It all comes down to the specific less-lethal ammunition selection and shot placement.
The deputy seems to have shown admirable concentration (and maybe a little luck) to put the shot where it would bring down the suspect but not kill him. Istag was treated at the local hospital for injuries sustained by the beanbag and is now sitting in jail.

[h=1]Felon with knife tries to rob former cop pizza delivery driver with gun[/h]By BearingArms.com Staff / 26 August 2013 / 107 comments
Care to guess the outcome?
The Brevard County Sheriff?s Office is investigating the death of 32-year-old Fredrick Lorenza Kelly Jr., who was shot and killed during an alleged Armed Robbery of a pizza delivery driver Friday night.
The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Days Inn motel at 4500 West New Haven in West Melbourne shortly before midnight. Detectives say 54-year-old Bryon Park of Palm Bay had just returned to his vehicle after delivering a pizza to a room in the motel complex, when he was approached by Kelly who had a large knife.
Kelly demanded money from Park and threatened to kill him if he did not comply. Deputies say that?s when Park, the pizza delivery man who happens to be a former law enforcement officer, grabbed a gun from his car and defended himself, by firing one shot towards Kelly.
Kelly was struck and pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies say this wasn?t the first offense for Fredrick Kelly Jr. It turns out he has a lengthy violent criminal history that includes Armed Robbery, Aggravated Battery and False Imprisonment.
Confrontational crimes such as armed robbery have plummeted since the widespread acceptance of concealed carry laws, precisely because criminals have come to fear the possibility of armed citizens like Mr. Park ending their careers with extreme finality.
The most shocking part of this incident is that former Officer Park fired just one shot. Don?t they teach firing ?controlled pairs? at most police academies?

[h=1]Gun Self-Defense: Homeowner Shoots Criminal Who Pistol Whipped Him[/h]By Bill Myers / 6 August 2013 / 93 comments
Sometimes a person?s resilience can be downright inspiring. In Cleveland, Ohio, a homeowner and woman were leaving his residence when two masked men with guns ambushed them.
The incident occurred as the two were entering a car, and during the assault, an altercation broke out between the homeowner and one of the robbers. The criminal proceeded to pistol whip the homeowner and attempted to remove him from the car.
Somehow, staying conscious during the entire ordeal, the homeowner managed to grab his firearm from the vehicle and fire at the two suspects.
The pistol whipping robber was struck multiple times and died at the scene. The second suspect fled the scene but not before stealing the woman?s purse?guess he needed some vindication from his partner?s unnecessary death. Disgraceful.
The homeowner was treated for minor injuries but will make a full recovery as police continue their search for the second suspect.
This marks the second time this week in which a homeowner managed to defend his family by keeping a gun in the vehicle. Yesterday we covered a couple who was forced at gunpoint to rob a bank where the wife worked. Fortunately as with the above story the husband had a firearm in his car.
Contrary to what anti-gun politicians would like you to believe these stories aren?t freak occurrences. They happen every day and thankfully these homeowners had the wherewithal to locate their gun and save their loved ones from incurring any bodily harm.

Oct. 1, 1997
Luke Woodham fatally stabbed and bludgeoned his mother and went on to kill two students and injure seven others at his high school. Woodham was stopped by Assistant Principal Joel Myrick, a U.S. Army Reserve commander, who detained Woodham by using a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol he kept in his truck, until authorities could show up.

Myrick stopped Woodham from going across the street to the middle school.

April 24, 1998
Andrew Wurst showed up to his middle school dance with his .25-caliber pistol. He fired it, killing a teacher, wounding a second one, and injuring two students. The 14-year-old?s shoot-out lasted about 20 minutes. It was ended when James Strand, the owner of the banquet hall the dance was happening in, confronted Wurst with his personal shotgun. He ordered Wurst to drop his weapon and held the teenager in place for 11 minutes before finally getting him to drop the weapon and lie on the ground, and then searched him for other weapons.

3. The Appalachian School of Law shooting

Jan. 16, 2002
A 43-year-old Nigerian former student named Peter Odighizuwa arrived on campus with a handgun. There are different variations of the story, but according toeyewitness accounts, law students Tracy Bridges, a county sheriff?s deputy, and Mikael Gross, a police officer, ran to their cars after hearing gunshots and grabbed personally owned firearms. They approached Odighizuwa, ordering him to drop his firearm; he did and was subdued by unarmed students.

Three people were killed and three others were wounded.

4. The New Life Church shooting

Feb. 12, 2007
Sulejman Talović killed five people and wounded four others in 2007 when he began firing in a public square in Salt Lake City, Utah. He carried a shotgun and a backpack of ammunition. He was eventually stopped in a shoot-out involving Salt Lake City Police Department SWAT that took place in a Pottery Barn Kids. He was cornered, however, by off-duty police officer Kenneth Hammond, who held him in position before authorities could arrive.

Hammond ran on scene after hearing gunshots fire out while having an early Valentine?s Day dinner with his pregnant wife at a local restaurant.

6. The Golden Market shooting

July 19, 2009
The details are murky but according to reports, a man entered a Golden Market in Virginia in 2009 and began firing a gun. He shot and wounded the clerk and thenbegan firing at patrons inside. He ran out of ammo and was attempting to reload when he was shot, wounded, and then subdued by a permit holder who happened to be in the store.

7. The New York Mills AT&T store shooting

May 27, 2010
Off-duty police officer Donald J. Moore stopped Abraham Dickan, a 79-year-old man who decided to shoot up an AT&T store in New York Mills, New York. Moore was in the store when Dickan entered brandishing a .357 magnum and a hit list of employees he planned to kill in his pocket. Moore heard Dickan?s gun go off, drew his own personal weapon, and killed Dickan on scene.

One AT&T employee was injured in the shooting.

8. The Clackamas Town Center shooting

Dec. 11, 2012
Two people were killed and a third was seriously wounded in Clackamas County, Oregon, when Jacob Roberts opened fire in a local shopping mall. Nick Meli, a shopper in the mall, drew a personally owned firearm on Roberts, who then retreated. Meli did not fire his weapon, for fear of striking bystanders.

9. The San Antonio Theater shooting

enhanced-buzz-29823-1379453325-16.jpg

Via google.com

Dec. 16, 2012
In December of last year, gunfire broke out in a San Antonio movie theater. Moviegoers rushed to exits and ducked for cover as a lone gunman, Jesus Manuel Garcia, began shooting in a China Garden that spilled over into an attached movie complex. The San Antonio Police Department were fired at by the gunman and had to evacuate and seal off the complex.

The gunman was eventually shot and struck by an off-duty police officer, Lisa Castellano, who was working at the theater that night.

The anti-gunners say that if only one life were saved then it's worth it. But in all of these less than covered crimes it was a civilian or off-duty police officer that saved many more lives using the weapon they were carrying.

The last one is disturbing in the fact that an off-duty officer was working at a movie theater. Is that by choice or by necessity? If by necessity she needs a substantial pay increase.

Is there some sort of moral superiority in not defending yourself against a criminal? I ask because you seem to go back and forth on the issue of self defense.

Don't bother Zaphod. LAM is just walking the party line. If we were to pull out all the drug related gun killings from American statistics, we would have the same % of firearm deaths per thousand as Europe. But is it much easier to blame an inanimate object for this then to say the Liberal social polices of the past 40 years have failed and it has bred generations of sociopaths.

With that said what really pisses me off......

The fucking 600 pound gorilla in the room that NO ONE talks about is mental illness. I am about as pro-gun as it gets. But really, we have mentally disturbed people walking the streets because HIIPA, NIH and other idiot agencies have removed the ability for police to pull people in for psychiatric holds. That shooter from the Pentagon, had several contacts with police, the cops knew he was crazy, they could do nothing about it. How this shit would have been different if they could. Pull him in, get him evaluated. give him the meds he needs and on the path to manage his condition. Nope no can do anymore. Then the shrink he was seeing could not divulge his condition to the proper authorities that gave him a clean slate. This allowed him to pass the NIC check where he bought the shotgun. Gimme a fucking break people. Almost every mass shooting we have had, the shooter was INSANE. And almost always there was prior contact with police or mental health professionals. No one, not the Dems, not the Rebubs, not the NRA or the Brady Campaign will touch this with a 10 foot pole. Because it may offend someone and cost them donations or votes. Fucking cowards...all of them.

yep going back to the days of wild west will really stick to China and Taiwan and the rest of SE Asia in coming decades as they turn out 30x people with advanced degrees then the US does. while American's are in the the streets shooting each other over the scraps the elites left the masses.

WTF? you can't possibly believe the shit that you type. In no way does carrying concealed and stopping mass shootings equate to the wild west. the only way to make that analogy is to not understand CCW, or the history of the united states. most likely both. You continually over and over show why you lack credibility when you post.

The anti-gunners say that if only one life were saved then it's worth it.

Anyone with some statistics education knows this is a crock of shit. "If only one life were saved" is convenient because it appeals to people on a visceral level but there's no way of knowing with a certainty of +/- 1 person. In other words, you can say that about almost anything and it be equally valid... "If not masturbating saves only one kitten, it was worth it" is just as legit as that anti-gun argument.

[h=1]Marine at Navy Yard tells father, ?if we had the ammunition, we could?ve cleared that building?[/h]By BearingArms.com Staff / 19 September 2013 / 40 comments

?My son was at Marine Barracks ? at the Navy Yard yesterday ? and they had weapons with them, but they didn?t have ammunition. And they said, ?We were trained, and if we had the ammunition, we could?ve cleared that building.? Only three people had been shot at that time, and they could?ve stopped the rest of it.?
CNS News goes on to note specifically why the Marines didn?t have ammunition.
Thanks, Bill Clinton:
Back in 1993, the Clinton administration virtually declared military establishments ?gun-free zones.? As a result, the policy banned ?military personnel from carrying their own personal firearms and mandates that ?a credible and specific threat against [Department of the Army] personnel [exist] in that region? before military personnel ?may be authorized to carry firearms for personal protection.? Indeed, most military bases have relatively few military police as they are in heavy demand to serve in Iraq and Afghanistan,? according to economist John Lott.
Lott also goes on to note that with just two exceptions in the 63 years since 1950 (the Gabby Giffords attack in Tucson, AZ and a an attack an IHOP in Carson City, NV, both in 2011), every mass murder with a gun where more than 3 people were killed occurred in a so-called ?gun free zone.

[h=1]Explosive BBC Claim: CERT unit at Navy Yard told to stand down by supervisor as shooter raged[/h]By BearingArms.com Staff / 18 September 2013 / 88 comments
If this BBC News story is true, then Capitol Police officials are de facto accessories to murder:
Multiple sources in the Capitol Police department have told the BBC that its highly trained and heavily armed four-man Containment and Emergency Response Team (Cert) was near the Navy Yard when the initial report of an active shooter came in about 8:20 local time.
The officers, wearing full tactical gear and armed with HK-416 assault weapons, arrived outside Building 197 a few minutes later, an official with knowledge of the incident told the BBC.
According to a Capitol Police source, an officer with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Washington DC?s main municipal force, told the Capitol Cert officers they were the only police on the site equipped with long guns and requested their help stopping the gunman.
When the Capitol Police team radioed their superiors, they were told by a watch commander to leave the scene, the BBC was told.
The gunman, Aaron Alexis, was reported killed after 9:00.
HK-416s are a variant of the M4 carbine, and the Capitol Police CERT unit is basically a fire-team specializing in dynamic entry and close-quarters battle in fluid situations where target discrimination is paramount. If this Capitol Police CERT unit is trained to even a fraction of a degree one would expect, then they would have greatly over-matched mass-murdering Alexis, a glorified electrician with the infantry combat experience of a Cub Scout.
If it is determined that the Capitol Police CERT team were forced to stand down by a supervisor because of some petty jurisdictional turf war, then heads should roll.
Update: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that a Metro Police supervisor told the CERT Team to stand down. Instead, it was a Capitol Police watch commander that allegedly told the unit to stand down.

[h=1]Top 8 fallacies told about the Navy Yard Shooting[/h]By BearingArms.com Staff / 18 September 2013 / 74 comments
1. The Navy Yard shooter used an AR-15.
Early news reports typically attributed to ?law enforcement sources? claimed that Aaron Alexis shot his way into the Navy Yard armed with an AR-15, shotgun or second rifle, and a pistol. Other news reports asserted that he obtained an AR-15 from an open gun safe, or police officers and security guards that he may have ambushed inside Building 197.
Alexis is only confirmed to have used a Remington 870 shotgun at this time, but his body was recovered with at least one handgun nearby, thought to have been taken from a security guard.
The FBI states that there is no evidence Alexis used an AR-15 in the attack.
2. The shooter attempted to purchase an AR-15, but was denied.
Aaron Alexis purchased a Remington 870 shotgun at a Newington, VA gun store with an adjoining range called Sharpshooters.
He rented an AR-15 on the firing line at the gun range. He never left the firing range with it, and never attempted to purchase one according to the store?s attorney. The transaction was recorded on videotape.
3. There was more than one shooter.
Early news reports asserted that there may be as many as three total shooters. Washington Metro Police and the FBI were basing that assessment based on a combination of video surveillance and confusing eyewitness testimony.
After Alexis was killed, it took several hours for law enforcement to identify and interview the two other men, and rule them out as suspects.
4. The shooter targeted whites.
One of the very first witnesses interviewed was Todd Brundidge, an African-American male Alexis fired upon without warning. Among the fatalities were two African-Americans and a man of southwest Asian descent. At least one of the injured is an African-American female. All known survivor testimony indicate that Alexis was shooting indiscriminately at targets of opportunity.
5. The shooter was an Obama supporter.
There is no indication that Alexis voted in any elections since 2000, and there have been no indications he was particularly interested in politics.
6. The shooter was able to breach security because of sequestration.
The security of the door on Building 197 used by the shooter was unaffected by sequestration, in terms of staffing, equipment, or procedures. He used his own valid work identification to enter the building, and employees with identification are not routinely screened for weapons.
7. The shooter attacked a heavily-defended military base.
Weapons and ammunition on military bases are tightly controlled, and are locked in armories when not in use. Only security personal, law enforcement officers, and other authorized are allowed to carry weapons on base. As a practical matter, military bases are largely ?gun free zones.?
8. This attack proves that the NRA?s adage, ?The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun? is false.
This statement is predicated on the fact that an armed security guard was among the first victims, if not the first victim. What they leave out is that Alexis did not enter Building 197 with an assembled weapon, but apparently re-assembled the shotgun in a bathroom before ambushing the security guard and taking his handgun. In the end, armed police officers with firearms engaged Alexis at close quarters, leading to his death.
Wayne LaPierre, the NRA Vice President who made this statement after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, was once again proven sadly correct.

[h=3]Another Gun Free Zone Invites, Predictably, Another Tragedy[/h]-- Saturation coverage encourages the depraved to get their ?moment of fame?
Last spring, as networks like MSNBC launched five months of saturation coverage intended to force gun control on the American people, we said, over and over and over and over again, that there was (tragically) ?another Adam Lanza? sitting out there, glued to his TV screen, and planning his own five months of fame.?
As it became clear that Congress was not going to pass gun control in April, MSNBC commentators said, almost wistfully, that it would take another mass shooting to reinvigorate their cause.
xsuspect_20130916164633_320_240.jpg
Well, they got the mass shooting they were looking for.

On Monday, a discharged Navy enlisted man entered a ?heavily secure? Naval installation in Washington D.C. and engaged in a series of firefights, which ultimately left 12 others dead.
As the liberal media exploits this new set of victims to resurrect its war on guns, we will say again: ?There are one or more creeps like Aaron Alexis watching your coverage and planning their own time on your network. And, when they strike, the blood, once again, will be on your hands.?
Although we don?t know all the details, we can make several observations:
* First, once again, the shooting occurred in a gun-free zone, filled with ID checks and metal detectors that everyone erroneously assumed would save them.
* Second, the shooting occurred in a jurisdiction, Washington D.C., which has been rabid in its efforts to take guns away from its own citizens -- and to make it illegal for Washingtonians to defend themselves.
*Third, lest there be any question, Congress has banned the possession of any ?firearm or other dangerous weapon in a Federal facility? [18 USC, Sec. 930]. Hence, they all but advertised to Alexis, that, with the exception of security, everyone in the Naval facility would be sitting ducks.
In sum, the shooting occurred in a jurisdiction where the firearm was illegal and in a building where firearms are illegal. Other than banning firearms nationally, how many more illegalities do anti-gunners intend to pile on?
Banning guns and imposing background checks won?t stop these creeps, but armed good guys will. Remember that the Oregon shooter last December stole his AR-15 before killing two people at the Clackamas mall. But he retreated when he saw Nick Meli, who holds a concealed carry permit, draw his gun and point it at him. The killer then retreated and took his own life.
Given that putting guns in good people?s hands will save lives, why are law-abiding personnel being disarmed here on military bases? How ironic that when CNN?s John Roberts asked a military spouse if she was anxious about her husband being deployed to Afghanistan (in 2009), she responded: ?At least he?s safe there and he can fire back, right??
Efforts will be made to scapegoat Virginia for this most recent tragedy. But, not coincidentally, Alexis did not attack a Virginia locale where potential victims could defend themselves with guns.
ACTION: Contact your senators and representatives. Let them know that, despite the efforts of the liberal media to milk this tragedy for political gain, the problem is not the Second Amendment. The problem is anti-gun laws and policies.

What is really happening in the military these days? I heard on the radio news that there was a Marine security squad on that base. They had M4s and side arms. BUT NO AMMUNITION! Shit when I was in the Army, you couldn't swing a dead cat without hitting an armed MP, NCOD OR OD. I kept a hunting rifle and a couple of pistols in my barracks dorm room. It was no big deal. Why have we disarmed the friggin' military?
