Well what the hell. With all the touchy stuff going on with some members *cough* Prince *cough* :p I'm a little curious as to peoples views on this one. If somebody wants to die should they have that right? Please state reasons, religious or otherwise.

Ah fuq. Allrighty then, just for the sake of this thread ASSUME that euthanasia is assisted suicide.

The population of the world is growing too rapidly. If someone wants to help by offering to rid the planet of themselves, then have at it!

Well, you can all probably guess my position on this. :)

If you want to die, then die.

I do not say that because I am cold or heartless, but it's your life and if you are that unhappy with it and you do no think you can make it better, or just have no desire to, it's your decision.

Hoever, I think that you should be required to go thru some type of counseling first, because it may just be depression and help may change your mind. It could even be a chemical imbalance that medication can fix.
I agree. The person should be made to go through some kind of counceling.

My mom was type 1 bipolar and offed herself. With the right meds it wouldn't have happened.

Butterfly made me go to a Dr. and now I'm on meds for type 2 bipolar disorder. Before that I don't know how many times I thought about suicide.

Now if someone is in constant pain and they may die anyway I think they should be able to do it.

that's what I was thinking....doesn't assisted suicide fall under euthanasia?

I thought by def, it is the offing of the old by age to control population... even though I threw a 'lil connotation into it...

but if nothing else... I wanted to piss IT off a 'lil :D

Can someone please clarify? Are we talking about Dr Kevorkian-type suicides, or are we talking about suicides of plain ol' depressed people?

Suicide by someone who is terminally ill can save them a lot of pain and suffering. Suicide by an otherwise healthy person is an entirely differnet monster.

I hate those monsters!

Ther person should be counselled for some time to make sure they are definite in thier decision. If it's found that they are sure, then I don't see a problem with it.

so, we're going with euthanasia = assisted suicide?

if so, I will put my post back up:

PRICK!!.............................good job though :p

You'll never guess who the only "NO" has been.

Let's just say that even though you may be terminally ill or depressed or old but, you still have a purpose for life. *Cough* *Cough* Religious Resons *Cough**Cough*

Well, I guess on a personal level I am for it, but only for the right reasons. I agree that the person should seek counceling first, and if all goes well, then it's their choice. The only reason I see fit, is if they have a terminal disease. If there is no chance of "beating" the disease and it comes down to quality of life. There are just so many options though... so many scenarios...

I'm against assisted suicide, unless the person offs themselves and are only assisted in giving the means to do so... I think it's morally wrong but up to the individual. As for euthanizing the old for population control... :D

PS: I can think of a few people I'd volunteer for extermination :thumb:

I was waiting for you to come around.:D

But I respect your opinion and thanx for putting it down :thumb:

As for myself I am for it. I have seen my grandfather suffer for years before he finally died. But he refused any assist as he kept saying that 'the good lord will take me when it's time.' he never did anything in his last years but suffer and it was in vain (as far as I'm concerned)

We put down animals when they are suffering, why? Because it's the humane thing to do. When they are old and are in constant pain you put them down quick and painlessly. So why not for humans?

well, I would say that he believes in determinism and thinks that god has put everyone on earth for a reason/purpose.

personally I believe in free will/choice, and that we determine the direction of our lives by the choices we make everyday.

Albob,

Let me preface that this is on a religious basis. I never short change what God can do through anyone. Even if a person is terminally ill they can still make a difference in someone elses life. Let's face it, unless they have a miracle happen in their life, they will die. If that's that case, I believe that you take the time that God has allowed and pour into others. My grandfather did this for me, even when he knew he was going to die. I just feel we all can make a difference, no matter our state.

its their body, souls and choice. Just don't involve others. But killing yourself is selfish and ignorant.

Some people do make an impact through those times as I can attest to. It's the person's choice IMO, but I don't think it's the right one :( .

I completely agree with this statement BUT, I don't think it's our decision to make for the terminally ill person. True, they CAN make a difference but if they CHOOSE not to it's their decision and we should respect it...................In my humble opinion. :D
