i was doing incline DB presses tonight and on my last two reps of my third set, my left shoulder popped- it has done this before, too. so when i got to doing my cable side laterals, it just killed my left shoulder. this, like i said, has happened in the past. the first time was when i was doing upright rows several months ago, and it did the popping thing and hurt for like a week afterwards. what can i do to prevent this from happening? i was able to switch to DB lateral raises as a substitute and it didnt hurt much.......

Uhm see a doctor!

or don't lift.

One thing that I do not mess around with anymore is my shoulders. After injuring my rotator cuffs I now pay special attention to warming them up, strengthening the rc's, and if I ever feel pain I stop doing that exercise immediately.

The two things that scare me the most in the gym are injuries to my shoulders and to my knees. I have been pretty lucky so far (knock on formica) but I agree with Prince. Any discomfort (beyond soreness, of course) and I drop the weights immediately.

yeah ive heard that if you keep your muscles squeezed while you negative, and squeeze at the bottom, it wont happen, and i tried that and it didnt pop
