Bitter Pill: Why Medical Bills Are Killing Us | TIME.com

I found this article really interesting. We all like to say that gov't fucks everything up and for the most part that's true. After reading this article it appears they know how to deal with hospitals when it comes to setting compensation rates for Medicare. They pay for everything but the profit the hospital charges insurance companies and the average joe.

Crazy! Thats they have a love hate relationship with medicare/medicaid. They know they will get there money but they cant overcharge the patients or the government. But of course they find ways to milk the system.

yep...and that's one of the main reasons why the GOP is so against medicare, it exposes the major failure in the US for-profit health care system.

also when you look at the numbers healthcare employes about 12M total across the 50 states but it constitutes 18% of US GDP. those monies could be used to fuel consumption in other areas of the economy if there where more price controls on various services and products.

We the insured paying for the uninsured

The article is about a middle-age man getting cancer and having to pay upwards of a million in copays and deductibles because he is a small business owner and had to buy a limited insurance plan. Cancer is very expensive to treat, but the article stated he would have had to pay far less if he were eligible for Medicare. But, yes the insured do pay for the uninsured when they inevitably consume healthcare.
