Carry on....

I hope that shit hole falls into lake huron. On another note, we could salvage Michigan if we could give it back to Canada.

Or we talking fiscally or culturally? Because the latter happened a long time ago.

They'll head the way of chicago and start privatizing public assets. I suspect one of our more novel political marvels is the intentionally created budgetary crisis. "Oh no, we can't pay the electricity bill". Enter big oil company, bank, or whoever the fuck. "I'll save you, just sell me control over the parking meters or paid parking lots". Feigned economic crisis created by former employee of said company, now "doing his utmost to get this city fiscally solvent".

The American Dream....

 I wonder if we all chipped in together we could buy a couple of city blocks, maybe even create our own town ?

Gearz and such could be legal there.

They need to blow it up and re-build it, you figure the main percentage of people left there are probably some of the nicest people you will ever want to meet

You guys could move to Philly Pa. or Camden N.J.

Housing is affordable & airy .. plus we accept both food stamps & old white people..

...and what more can you say about the Camden skyline that hasn't already been said.

The said part is there really is quite a few people who busted their asses for that city that are about to lose their pensions.

Those socialist democrats that ran that city forever did their level best to keep things going. The problem is there was simply not enough graft money to go around. Remember, blame it on Bush. :coffee:

Since Detroit is part of Michigan the Canadians might take that as an act of war.

Party affiliation had nothing to do with it. Beginning with Colman A. Young the city of Detroit started to go down the shitter. So many criminals in positions of power stealing from the city it was simply a matter of time before it all collapsed. There's a reason Kwame Kilpatrick is in jail. There's a reason the FBI is investigating most of the city council members and others associated with them. They're crooks. The city was beginning to make a turn-around under Dennis Archer but he was fighting against the criminal organization known as city council the whole way because they didn't want to lose their cash cow and he got tired of it and didn't run for re-election. Now they have the ineffective and part time hospitalized Dave Bing as mayor who is up for re-election and up against two other crooks who want a piece of the mayoral payola.

And the city slashes the budget for the fire department.

It's a complete shitshow. At least they have brothers coming in from different departments from all around to help out when they can, I'd personally love to go up there and help but it's hard to get away with what I have going on here.

I've worked in Detroit since I was 18. By no means is it a great place, but a lot of people make it out worse then it really is.

I'd love for something good to come to it, but they'd have to clean up the streets incredibly well and knock down a shit load of structures.
With that being said, could be a potential investment for property (lolyarite)

Could you imagine if Detroit is the direction the rest of the country is going?

I completely believe Detroit is just the first city. There will be more.

Well said. I am a Detroiter!

Hell, It's like the planet of the fucking apes there. Three thang ya cant give a nigger, black eye fat lip and a job,

They should bulldoze the dead parts, and plant trees. Let the it be reclaimed by vegetation. Won;t do much for their economy, but it would make it look and smell a hell of a lot better.

They are already bulldozing the "dead parts" and many folks having been urban farming there for over five years. Detroit's farmer's market is one of the oldest and best in the US. Most these people sell their produce there. The farmer's market is called Eastern Market. It is pretty kickass.

Detroit has many problems, but the good is already out weighing the bad, IMHO. I've lived in three other major cities and moved back because I miss hometown feel. Detroit may not be as "great" as those cities to most, maybe not even me at times, but it has a charm for those that are willing to see!

Detroit needs mass transit. Without it, it will not recovery fully. GM ruined Detroit's mass transit starting in the 50's and kept going. GM actually ruined the mass transit for the nation buying up Amtrak and buslines. NY, SanFran, Seattle, Chicago wouldn't let GM take it away from them. It is not coincidence that they are great metropolitan cities.
