How to win the war on poverty

IML Gear Cream!
Everytime I read your posts, you make me feel sane. Thanks

adding on to what Smoothy stated, you also see the same people complaining about the poor unable to truly comprehend the macroeconomic effects from changes in the markets whether they are naturally occurring or changes made via legislation.

they say they "understand" yet continue to complain and still ask the same questions wondering why the problems haven't been solved.

What does race and drug use have to do with anything when the same problem is seen across the globe?

teen pregnancy rates are highest in the states with the highest degrees of income inequality and across the OECD the country's with the lowest amounts of inequality have the lowest teen pregnancy rates.

I know LAM. I threw race in there to yank your chain a little, but you didn't bite. I'm puzzled with this sudden great concern about "income inequality" as it seems like a very socialist issue. Until we all become equal in terms of intelligence, work ethic, life goals, and ambition, there will always be some degree of income inequality. Every person doesn't have a desire to be the general manager or owner of a business. Some people are willing to work 80+ hours per week in order to get ahead, while others are content working an 8-5, so long as they can put food on the table. Some people want to own their own business or climb the corporate ladder in order to become wealthy. There will always be those who want to work hard and achieve a certain standard of living and those who desire a low stress, simple life with less concerned about material things. Unless we become a society of robots who are all programmed identically (as was attempted by the Soviets), there will always be income inequality. I don't see where that's a problem.

On the other hand, if the gap b/w the wealthy and poor continues to grow at an inordinate rate, I can see where that would be a problem. That seems to have been the case over the last 30 years. But, unless we want to become a true socialist society, there will always be income inequality. You dig?

I guess people can't take personally responsibility for themselves, it's their fault for being stupid and the governments fault for not forcing them to use condoms.
No, you got it all wrong Farva! It's not their fault for being stupid. It's not the govt's fault for not forcing them to use condoms either. It IS the govt's fault though, for not providing the condoms free of charge (i.e. you and I paying for them). You see, according to LAM, they would prefer to use condoms, but after buying multiple 6-packs of Colt-45 and a few packs of Black n Mild cigars, how can they be expected to have enough $ left over (when they just got paid the same afternoon) to buy rubbers? The taxpayers need to start providing them with contraceptives at the middle school age.

we never should have enslaved the niggers... they have been FAR more trouble than they are and were ever worth :coffee:

Well considering it's been occurring in every country across the globe for a couple thousand years did you even think maybe its human nature?

god created negros to keep mexicans from taking over the world

Still doesn't mean others should be forced to pay for it. (Argumentum ad antiquitatem or appeal to nature)

It's been a function of government and societies or hundreds of years, and considering that the US spends the 3rd lowest on the social safety net, has record high inequality of wealth and income it's a miracle that it's not worse than it is, it's never going to get better any better so get over it!

If you want small government and low taxes go check out Kabul, it's super sweet. I think it's hysterical that people are bitching about something that been going on in the US for a hundred years and several hundred in other country's.

^This is a logical fallacy called argumentum ad antiquitatem (a common fallacy in which a thesis is deemed correct on the basis that it correlates with some past or present tradition. The appeal takes the form of "this is right because we've always done it this way.")

if liberals didn't exist, niggers would die off and most Mexicans would vanish.. though the Mexican population would rise steadily but not through subsidization by the federal government

I didn't say it was right or wrong, those words don't even exist in my world. I'm not a radical like most of your here and don't only see the extremes.

The fact that you desire less or no social safety net given the conditions of the US economic model is further proof how little about this subject you are actually able to comprehend.

So let me get this straight, while the economic pie is not only shrinking in size when looking at the real economy, but labors share of the national income is rapidly shrinking, labor completely fragment and 50% of the workforce is working part-time you desire more people to "pull-themselves" up out of poverty?

Have you actually compared the US economic model and anti-poverty, safety-net protections to country's with much lower rates of poverty? because we went in the completely opposite direction of them.

:hmmm: :roflmao:

And the irony of the story is your attitude about "the poor" is exactly what the 1% is doing to you!

Why didn't they just name that article, "Staying Poor: The Excuse"?

First top? Owning a car. They say, "is a necessity for many jobs". Well then, don't pick one of those jobs. A car is a luxury, not a necessity.

Next topic: saving money. They say, "Even saving money is a burden for the poor", and then ramble on about how hard is to put money in banks. Bullshit. Bank of America, which has locations everywhere, has eBanking. It has no minimum balance if you do everything online. Don't have Internet? Use the library. That's too much of a hassle? Save up the actual cash until you meet whatever the minimum requirement is for the bank of your choice.

Next: lack of services. They go on about local stores, especially in poor areas, not having good prices or decent fresh produce. There's a Walmart everywhere. Don't like Walmart? Take a god damn bus to a store that does have what you need. Hell, take a bus to an area that has these mythological "more competitive prices" that don't exist in poorer areas.

Last topic: Internet access. They say, "One of the biggest disadvantages that those in poverty experience is a lack of broadband Internet." The Internet is free at the library.

How do I know this shit? Because I did most of it. What, getting out of poverty isn't a hop, skip, and a jump down the Yellow-fucking-brick road? Then again, what the fuck do I know about getting out of poverty or why most people belong there? It's not like it's part of my life history or nothing.

The number cause of poverty is the natural inclination to take the path of least resistance, which is what so many unmotivated people do. They've tried jack shit and sit around wondering why life doesn't magically get better.

And I'm not even fucking done.

I watched a video of Northern Africa where a six year old boy had to sit in the pre-dawn dark for four hours while his parents had to walk miles to get water to drink. And here's a fucking article that bitches and moans about shit like the lack of Internet access, all the while ignoring that you can walk down to the library or go to a friends house. Or not having price competitive stores, and ingoring taking the bus to somewhere else for better prices.

There's your motherfucking first-world problems and whining right there fuck there.

Jesus fucking Christ.

Such angry people. Angry at the wrong people.

So you expect people in poverty to "pull themselves" up under the current economic environment which has steady decreased for labor over the past 30 years while the middle class is simultaneous getting pulled down?

don't you see the math via wages just isn't there. Your ideology just can't see past what is a function of basic mathematics and/or the macroeconomic environment.

Nonfarm Business Sector: Labor Share (PRS85006173) - FRED - St. Louis Fed

Your ideology, the idea that everyone would pull themselves up, is delusional. Only a few ever will. It's the same reason why there are a few affluent countries and the majority are poor. An "up" or "down" economy only effects the difficulty moderately for those that'll actually work to make themselves better. The status of the economy really effects those that want to take it easy and live on handouts from the government (funded by the middle class).

And yes, there are those that did all the right things but still got hurt by the downturn. They're also the ones that'll work to get back up.

I never made such a ridiculous statement about everyone moving up that's beyond delusional as it wasn't even close to achieved at the height of the real US economy which would have been pre-1975 or thereabouts.

It's just that as the middle-class continues to decline there will obviously be less opportunities for people to move up because they still have to compete with not only those at the same rung of the economic ladder but those that started above them and are dropping down.

Aggregate demand will never pick up anything close to what it was during the manufactured housing boom years ago and with wages stagnant and/or falling for the "middle-class" it's just going to get smaller and smaller as more people fall down into the underclass over the decades.

No, I'm angry at the people throwing up excuses. I'm also angry with the financial elite. I can, in fact, be upset with both.

Financial help to small countries from big brother is also used as a form of control. I've told you this before yet you ignore it, well let president Correa tell you from his own experience how the United States has attempted to black mail him in multiple situations.

If I've ignore it, it's because such a thing is glaringly obvious. Every country that can use financial incentives, does.

Of course, none of that has any baring on what I said.
