Our spinning instructor keeps telling us to "breathe IN through the nose, OUT through the mouth." Why do I have to breathe like that? I have a damaged nasal passage (thanks to a hockey stick), and breathing in through the nose is difficult. I can get more air and get it faster by breathing in through the mouth.

Just wondering what makes breathing in through the nose so beneficial.

Because of your Nose hairs............ Snot... meucus.... they help to filter the air that gets into your lungs.... I remember reading something like that many years ago.....

Yeah, also it helps me "control" my breathing when I do it that way. :)

I agree, if your having trouble baboon, just go with what feels right for you.

Yeah, that's what I'll keep doing. If I try to inhale through the nose, I don't get enough oxygen and I'll pass out. I was playing hockey about ten years ago and took a slash to the face. Breathing through the nose has not been the same since.

Do what feels natural during training. Getting too focused on "how" you are breathing is silly...just as long as YOU ARE breathing, you're fine!
