Not looking good, Robert...

Well maybe if the Pats would stop being such cheap bastards they'd actually win something....

:p

I think maybe they went to the same seminar as the Eagles did last year on managaing the salary cap from last place.

This is a decent signing for the Browns. I wish Willie McGinest all the best.

Don't look now Pats fans, but Vinatieri may be the next one to go. I heard on the radio tonight that he has agreed to terms with the Colts, although nothing is signed yet.

I would think that the Colts must be somewhere near the top of the salary cap, no?

From espn.com

The most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history is about to be replaced by one of the most clutch placement specialists in the game.

ESPN.com has learned that unrestricted free agent Adam Vinatieri, who provided the winning field goals in two of the New England Patriots' three Super Bowl victories, has reached a contract agreement in principle with the Indianapolis Colts. There remains some work to be done on the contract, but the deal could be completed by Tuesday night.

The contract, if completed, would be a multiyear deal, with a signing bonus of $3.5 million.

Vinatieri would replace longtime Colts kicker Mike Vanderjagt, the most accurate field goal kicker in NFL annals, who is also an unrestricted free agent. And the move for Vinatieri is fraught with irony, given the rivalry between the Patriots and the Colts.

A 10-year veteran, Vinatieri, 33, has converted 263 of 321 field goal attempts and 367 of 374 extra point tries in 160 games. He recently visited with Green Bay officials but left without a contract.

Vinatieri ranks at No. 7 on ESPN.com's Top 50 unrestricted free agents list.

You would figure they would be looking for an RB.

Well, it is official...

I don't get this deal. I think this hurts the Pats more than it helps the Colts, maybe that was the point. Actually, I don't think it really helps at all. What good is a clutch kicker when your whole team chokes in the first round of the playoffs anyway?

The Pats are $20 million under the cap. Why are they being such cheap bastards? I take it they are preparing to land some high priced free agents??

They seem to have, as I said, that stubborn Philadelphia Eagles system that puts a price on what they consider to be the going rate for position A and stick to their guns. The problem is, they must have the 1974 Kelley Blue Book Guide to Positions. It is all good to say there are going to be people willing to take less money to play for a contender, problem is I don't look at them as a contender right now. Could change in the upcoming months, but I am more and more beginning to doubt it. I don't think Vinatieri is a huge deal, Givens and McGinest are big ones, though.

The biggest deal actually seems to be the unwillingness to compromise coupled with the increase in the salary cap.

How much does she charge you?

Vinatieri wanted to paid by like a quarterback. He was asking to be the highest paid kicker in the game by a long shot.

This is similar to Damon signing with the Yankees. The Patriots gave him a more than fair offer, and he took the high road and bolted to our rivals.

I'll always respect Vinatieri, so I suppose it isn't entirely the same to the Damon situation.

Meaning what? Who is the hammer and who is the nail?

Keep them in order.

He has nothing good planned for the kicker position, unless you consider Paul Edinger a good plan. Still, the good idea here is not paying a kicker quarterback money, which Vinatieri didn't deserve at all.

He was guaranteed fame through advertisement had he taken a discount. Players are just dumb these days.
