I am taking a class called "Foods of the World" which is a general elective and basically we get to learn several dishes, ingredients, cooking styles, etc .. and most importantly, try different kinds of foods from countries such as Africa, Japan, Italy, Poland and so forth. My teacher is a chef for Wegman's which is one of the top family-owned grocery stores in some parts of the Northeast. If some of you have been there, you would know what i mean.

I have a presentation coming up soon and my topic was to discuss the key ingredients, customs, preparations, cooking style, etc.. of an African food called "fufu". I was just wondering if any of you who have had it before and/or are knowledgeable with African food can provide some helpful info.

It's basically a short, 5-7 minute presentation on powerpoint explaining what fufu is all about and how it's made and so forth.

I'd appreciate the help

Also, i remember somebody posting some pictures and a video of African people making fufu. Could you please link me to it? It would really help spice up my presentation.

You people who post wiki links, it is almost an insult to think he hasnt already checked there. It is the #1 result in google when you type Fufu.

Anyways I cook in a nice restraunt but have never heard of fufu, I will ask my chef who spent 4 years at the CIA(Culinary Institute of America) for ya, but it will be a textbook type answer.

I dont know what part of mass you are in but if you are in a city area I would check the web for African restaurants in the area. Ask if they serve the dish and f they do, say you would like to come down there, order the dish, and talk to the chef briefly while business is slow. Any chef is willing to educate people on their local cuisine if the time is right.

Probably your best chance to get a hands on type experience with it.

You can also mention that it's featured in the movie Phat Girls. They go to Nigeria and while there are introduced to Fufu, they even show how it's eaten....

From what I read it's like the hawaiian poi dish except even worse tasting. I've had poi, it tastes like wallpaper paste...
