I have been suffering Migraine since I was in high school, It's such a terrible pain when I get that migraine attack :headbang: :wits:

It was diagnosed when I was 22 yrs old till then I just use to suffer like crazy, no meds nothing just use to bear till the attack subsided, many times I refused to go to classes cos my head use hurt like crazy & my parents used to think I was faking it.

Now I am on medication and it's under control, but when I get that attack I need a dark quiet room, I simply can not bear light & sound....no way it just worsens it. My mom too suffers from migraine & also from epilepsy(adult on set), I just feel sad when she gets those epileptic attacks...just sad...there's nothing I can do but wait till the attack is over.

I was able to identify my migraine triggers,

Hot & humid weather
Very strong coffee & chocolate
MSG
Acid reflux
Automobile Pollution
Solvent Fumes
Household Pesticides (Pest Control is the worst!!)

That's my story.......any one here who suffers from migraine or cluster headache? How do you deal with it?

I used to get headaches and nausea (not so much migraines though) in college from time2time. I smoked marijuana and it worked like a charm.

I don't get headaches or nausea that much anymore these days, nor do I smoke chronic....but marijuana really does have medicinal purposes that are worth considering IMHO.

I don't get cluster headaches, but every 6-12 months i'll have a migraine that lasts for about 5 hours or more, usually brought on by stress. If was any more frequent i would go and get some sort of treatment for it. I can't imagine how awful it must be for people who get them almost weekly, because i've never experienced any worse pain in my life. I'm due for one soon i think, because i haven't had one since the end of september :(

I used to get migraine headaches regularly. Injections of morphine or other opiates worked, but flattened me.

They went away entirely when I did Atkins and stayed in ketosis for a long time (8 months). They never returned.

PS you have my profound sympathy. Mid migraine, if you had handed me a loaded gun I'd have blown my head off.

Migraine is like happiness sucker.....My doc told me when ever I felt like I was gonna get one I should pop in a tab of prescribed medicine & that always worked. There are those morning's when you wake up with stiff neck and then by after noon the attack starts, on such days if I took the tab in morning then the attack never comes.

MORPHINE!!! I had to take that only once in my life not injection, just tabs. I had this kidney stone & man it was hurting like hell, doc put me on morphine.

Hmmm....Strange  I have reading about epilepsy & there also they suggest high protein diet is beneficial for epileptic people <On my way to pubmed>

I know, there where days when I used to just bang my head against the wall....that agony it's crazy. Mine was so worst that I got droopy eye(left one) as effect of migraine, My doc tells me to fix that droopy eye I'll have to under go a cosmetic surgery :nail:I have been wondering if it's worth it.

I actually went googling to check the cases of suicide cos of migraine...that was long time back.

That's right about the link with epilepsy - migraine and epilepsy are highly comorbid. Do you get migraine with or without aura? And it's not a high protein diet that the kids with epilepsy go on - it's a ketogenic diet. Not the same thing.

The migraines we get are called "suicide" migraines. Please get some narcotic to treat them with. Hydromorphone or Demerol worked fine for mine. I used an IM injection, but you may be okay with the tablets. Did your doctor not try you on cafergot, imitrex or any of the other migraine meds?

Mine are without aura, my doc put me on Neproxin 500 Mg & 10 mg of flunarizine (1 tab every night). I am on this prescription for around 3 years now. My mom also on Neproxin but her night time medicine is Amitriptyline. She used to take a tab named Migranil it's a combination of Ergotamine + Caffeine + belladonna. Some times Neproxin does not work for her then she HAS to take Migranil.

Yours was with aura?

I am also worried that down the line me or my bro or sis might get epilepsy. Mom's was adult on set so it's possible. Plus @epilepsy.com I read that there are 5% chances of children getting epilepsy if any one of parent is epileptic.

I get them and ephedrine + Advil used to work wonders for me. Now that I can't find a steady source of ephedrine I just use Advil Cold/Sinus but it doesn't kill the pain for me it just dulls it......I also have Maxalt but I only use that if I can stay home otherwise I get drowsy and become useless unless I'm doing something active that keeps my heart rate high........

I have had them for as long as I can remember, at five/ six I would shove my head in the cushions of the couch. My dad thought I was just being a tired lazy kid..... He would tell me not to try to fall asleep in the couch, to get my head out and sit on the couch right or to go out and play. It wasn't til I was a little older I would tell him I had a headache and light/noise made the pain worse......

Manic, why don't you try migraine specific medication? If I have cold/sinus with migraine then I HAVE to take the migraine tab and the cold/sinus tab together, same is with my acid reflux, if I have migraine cos of acidity then I have take Migraine tab & antacid together......other wise it takes hours to stop the attack.

With my current anti-migraine tab fully developed migraine takes anything between 30 to 60 mins to stop.....without the tab it goes on for more than 5 hours.

Sometimes if I fall asleep after the migraine the next morning it kicks in again....that's really shitty.

But after I cleaned up my diet & started my workout routine my migraine is much better, If I remember correctly I needed more than 15 tabs per month. Now 10 tabs go for at least 3 months. Same is with antacids.

I take Maxalt when I can but like I said it puts me out if I'm not staying active. One time I took it at work and I was sitting at my desk typing an email and then I would slip into day-dreamland where I was typing an email on the scales of a black lizard that kept swaying back and forth so I would have to swing my hands with the movement to stay over asdf jkl;...... Then I would open my eyes and realize I was still typing the email but every third and fourth letter was transposed back or forth from the intended key........

I never took that stuff at work again too much could go wrong...

^ But seriously, you can try different medication, Just need to find what suits you.

Even though I like taking natural mostly organic drugs I hate taking synthesized man made chemical drugs, I am just gonna buy a few bottles of emergency Ephedrine, I'm not sure what it is that helps me, maybe it's the Vaso-Dilation. All I know is it works wonders for me and gives me a boost of energy at the same time....

i get migraines often.. most likely related to my birth control. :/

i just had a sinus headache yesterday and ended up overdosing on tylenol =\ hospital wasent that fun lol

I used to get them every couple months or so, and I would be down and out for hours and i would eventually puke.
It was always so terrible.

They stopped completely when i started smoking weed.

I do know that for a couple years after I did acid I never had a migraine, but I was also drinking a lot back then and had a pretty stress free lifestyle....maybe I should try it again just to see if it would work.....

That's interesting, considering LSD was first isolated from ergot, a type of mold that grows on rye. Like LSD, Ergotamine is a derivative of ergoline Ergoline - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Recall that ergotamine is in the migraine medication Cafergot, a mixture of caffeine and ergotamine tartrate.

I speak from experience that like LSD, ergotamine makes you feel weird, only without that annoying euphoric, mind-altering experience. The high dose of caffeine assures you remain alert while you experience this no-fun buzz.

Two thumbs up though, in comparison to the migraine it supplants. :thumb::thumb:

I have never done LSD but LSD seems interesting........

The medicine my mom takes for migraine contains Ergotamine....

So taking pure Ergotamine is as good as LSD?

All the weirdness, without the fun part.

Ok, what exactly do you mean by "weirdness" & the "fun part"....enlighten me please.

Weirdness in the Mind : All of the introspective nightmarish glimpses, the sudden expansion of your mind to the outskirts of infinity and then it's collapse again, your imagination inhales and exhales and you realize it's all connected.......the fun parts are the voodoo glow skulls spiraling around the ceiling, the vibrating trees buzzing with green hums, weightlessness while still firmly held by Earth's magical grip, sensing time folding back on it's self and then slowing down like a dvd at frame by frame speed, the feeling of the overhead lights pelting you with photons like raindrops....

^ Manic at his best....:clapping:

So, tell me how risky is LSD? I seen just too many YT clips regarding it & other stuff. It's not that I can get LSD here but just curious.

With a Shaman Guide (aka one of the Experienced, well traveled more than a couple times, knows how to calm a bad trip) it's no more risky than driving down the street on a motorcycle without a helmet, if you have a bad trip your brain could be exposed to elements that could harm it, a good guide should be like your training wheels and keep you from harm. 9 times out of 10 when you find acid it's going to be a friend or someone you know who has done it before and they will want you to try it and promise you to stay by your side during the whole thing. Thats the thing about these types of drugs, people want others to experience it and they only want the best for you when you do so they will become your guardian during the process.

My first trip I still had control if I was walking around but when I'd stop I would just feel my thoughts continuing on with the inertia, then when the visuals got heavy all I wanted to do was lie on my back and zone out.....

:daydream:......the way you put it manic it seems very interesting.

Lucky, you had your guardian with you.

So how many trips have you done, 5, 10, 15?

Pretty sure I've had over 3 dozen hits, sometimes I'd take 5 or 6 at one time the most at once was 8 loaded blotters, like the first time I bought four, took half and then paranoia struck and I thought I was going to get caught with the rest so I took them all.... I've only had shrooms a few times and peyote 6 times...

?

For those who suffer migraines, this may be useful info, worth talking to your doc about if you have not already tried it. Topamax (topiramate) is an antiepileptic drug, but for unknown reasons, is very effective at preventing migraines in some people. Some studies show it also worked when taken at the onset of a migraine to stop it or make it less severe, but it appears it's being used more as a daily preventative.

When Indicated for Migraine:

Since this is a relatively new way to use some of the newer neuronal stabilizers (anticonvulsants) such as Topamax® (topiramate) (As well as others like Neurotin® (gabapentin), Lamictal® (lamotrigine) and Gabatril® (tiagabine)) prophylactically for Migraine disease, the dosage will be directed by your physican. Having noted that we will post recommend clinical practice guidelines for use as soon as we get that information from the manufacturer, FDA or AHS. For now, data from a Phase III study recently completed offers excellent information.

At the Migraine Trust's 14th biennial International Research Symposium, noted Migraine specialist Dr. Stephen Silberstein noted:

* The best results were achieved at a dosage of 100 or 200 milligrams of topiramate per day, a lower dosage than that used to treat epilepsy.
* The most commonly experience side effects were nausea and tingling of the extremities.
* "What was amazing in this trial was the effect on weight. The patients who got topiramate lost, on average, 3.8 percent of their body weight."

During a recent interview with MAGNUM, Dr. Silberstein elaborated:

* "The key to success with Topamax is a very slow titration up to the therapeutic dose. Patients should begin taking only 15 mg, once a day, and taper up slowly from there, being sure to take it in a split dose."
* The effective dosages are lower than you might think. Many patients achieve good results at only 50 mg per day."

Drug Profiles: Topamax for Migraines

The researchers found that those who received either 100 or 200 mg of Topamax daily experienced an average 39 and 41 percent reduction in migraine frequency, respectively. As in previous studies, the number of people whose migraine frequency was cut in half or even better was substantially higher for those taking all doses of Topamax than those receiving a placebo:

Topamax

On Aug. 11, the FDA approved a new indication for topiramate tablets and sprinkle capsules (Topamax, made by Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, Inc.), allowing their use for migraine prophylaxis in adults.

The approval was based on results of clinical trials showing that daily use of topiramate at the recommended dose significantly decreased the number of monthly migraine attacks in about 50% of patients compared with placebo.

Topiramate was previously indicated as adjunctive therapy for adult and pediatric patients aged two to 16 years with partial onset seizures or primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures, and in patients aged two years and older having seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.

Hi ......,

If you are suffering from severe headache over a period of time then you must take Imitrex tablet. This medication is used to treat migraine headache attacks once they occur. It is not effective in preventing migraines. This medication is not to be used for other types of headaches. One dose is taken by mouth at the first signs of a migraine attack.

To know more about this please visit the rxpharmastore where you can find information on this tablet and many more.
